Hero Xpulse 400 spotted testing in India

A spy shots video that appears to have been filmed from the Himalayas has confirmed that the XPulse 400 is still under development and testing by Hero MotoCorp. The motorcycle, which was once widely reported to have been discontinued by Hero, was initially scheduled to be launched by mid-2020, before being delayed indefinitely. The Hero XPulse 400 will be built around a new chassis, and will be quite well-equipped in terms of features. CarandBike had also learned from sources some time back that the motorcycle will be powered by a 421 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. CarandBike has also learned that the project is codenamed ACDA, and is close to completion.

According to the video, the XPulse 400 will look quite different from the 200cc model. The most noticeable change is the larger fuel tank along with the tail lamp, which looks similar to the one replaced on the 200cc model. The motorcycle is also expected to retain some styling cues, such as the round front LED headlamp, which is usually associated with the bike. We are also told that the motorcycle will get a full-colour TFT screen, a feature never seen before on the XPulse.

Hero Xpulse 400 is expected to be priced at Rs. 2.60 lakh

CarandBike has learned that the initial prototype was almost ready before it faced engine issues, particularly overheating problems. Now, it seems that Hero has sorted out those issues and has begun testing the adventure bike once again.

Among other things, the vehicle was spotted testing with a telescopic front fork setup, while the rear had a monoshock setup. Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends.

The motorcycle will have a 21-inch front wheel. Talking about the powertrain, the liquid-cooled 421 cc is expected to come with around 40 bhp of power and 35 Nm of peak torque, which will put it in the same territory as motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure.

The Hero Xpulse 400 will likely be priced at Rs. 2.60 lakh, and is expected to be a more accessible offering than the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure.
